WHAT IS COASTEERING?

Coasteering is a safe yet thrilling way to navigate the intertidal zone by climbing over rocks, jumping into the sea and exploring secret beaches, all under the supervision of our expert instructors. It will give you a whole new perspective on Swanpool Bay with its beautiful yet otherwise inaccessible rocks, gullies, coves and caves.

AN EPIC WAY TO NAVIGATE THE CORNISH COASTLINE

Like all our activities, coasteering is carefully managed and sessions are tailored to suit the tide and weather conditions as well as the needs and abilities of the group. So, whether you’re after a high-octane outing or a more sedate coastal exploration, you’re guaranteed a truly memorable experience.

Coasteering is a great activity for all ages – in fact, children as young as six can join in – but it does require a basic level of fitness to ensure your safety in the water. If you are unsure whether it’s suitable for you, please get in touch.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What’s the age limit?

Coasteering is suitable for anyone aged six and upwards.

Do you take non-swimmers?

Yes! Buoyancy aids are worn at all times, so it’s not essential that children are able to swim.

What should we bring?

Please bring swimming gear, a towel, suncream, plus closed-toe footwear that is suitable for use in the water (either wetsuit boots, water shoes or old trainers – no Crocs please).

How big are the jumps?

This depends on the tide, but we have a range of jumps to suit all abilities, from complete beginners to confident coasteerers, and we will tailor our route accordingly.

Where will we go?

The start of our route is Secret Beach, on the right-hand side of Swanpool Bay, and the coasteer continues around the adjacent rocks, gullies and caves, culminating at Stack Point, the location of our highest jumps.

How will reach the start of the coasteer?

Accompanied by your instructor, there is a 10 to 15-minute walk to the start of the coaster. If conditions and the group’s ability allow, we will go by kayak or paddleboard.

Is it safe?

With more than 20 years’ experience coasteering on the same coastline we make sure that our instructors go through a rigorous observation and training process to ensure your safety. And we work year-round to mitigate as many risks as possible since the Cornish coastline and conditions are ever-changing.

WHAT DO OUR CUSTOMERS SAY?

safe and well organised
“Fantastic morning coasteering! Highly recommended. Our instructor was excellent. A lot of fun, but we felt safe and well organised.”

We will be back
“Our instructor was very informative and quickly put us all at ease. We kayaked from the beach and saw some amazing varieties of seaweed and looked for spider crabs. After leaving our kayaks on a small beach our adventure truly began, clambering rocks and jumping from a selection of heights. We all felt completely safe and reassured, jumping from heights we never thought we'd be brave enough to do. We are all extremely proud of ourselves. Thank you - we will be back.”

I can totally recommend this as a safe, happy bet.
“Our instructor made it safe, understandable, fun, reachable. I jumped in (almost) every jump, crawled up rocks ready for the next one, got rescued from floundering on the rocks (most undignified) around the caves and laughed more than I have for a long time. As a 59-year-old woman with absolutely no confidence in water I can totally recommend this as a safe, happy bet.”

The boys loved it. Highly recommend!!
“Our 14-year-olds went coasteering and had the best time! Really well organised company, lovely front of house team, super helpful and nice. The boys loved it. Highly recommend!!”

we loved it
“Fantastic coasteering experience! Our family of four absolutely loved coasteering. We were a mixed ability group, but the morning worked for all of us. We were all challenged but also supported. The biggest jump we did was eight metres and all of us managed it and loved it. We also explored a small cave and had lots of laughs on the way. I would recommend this for anyone, don’t hesitate or be scared, we loved it!”

Highly recommend it
“Another fabulous couple of hours spent doing a private family coasteering trip with the team from Elemental. All instructors are highly qualified and caring, making the trip fun. Been going for years and always a good half-day out. Highly recommend it.”

The whole family (children 10 and 13) had a wonderful time.
“Our family went coasteering during our visit to Falmouth in August. The whole family (children 10 and 13) had a wonderful time. Our guide did an excellent job of providing instruction and was great company, too. She was kind and encouraging with our 10-year-old who was a little uneasy at some of the jumps. She provided just the right reassurance. We knew we were in capable hands and enjoyed the adventure. The coast was beautiful, and we all enjoyed the challenge of climbing over rocks, jumping from progressively higher rocks, and swimming into caves. The outing was a highlight of our holiday to England (from Canada). ”

I loved every second and will definitely go back.
“My boyfriend and I went coasteering with Elemental this week and had an incredible time. Our guide was brilliant – very friendly, reassuring and knowledgeable. We really enjoyed her company as well as her guidance! I was nervous at the beginning, but she put me at ease straightaway and went at our pace. I loved every second and will definitely go back.”
